Jake Shields Arrives In Hawaii

20 Apr

by Salvatore Russo (2006-04-20)

In all my conversations with Jake Shields on and off the record, months, weeks even hours before his fights he has never been one to look past any of his opponents. He treats tune up fights like he would Championships. His intensity never dwindles and he keeps looking forward, but again, never through, always at?his next opponent. Yushi Okami is Jake?s next opponent. While Okami advances to the semi finals in a not so spectacular fashion, at the same time he is a true warrior, sporting a record of 14 and 2. This Pride veteran is no way a tomato can opponent and will probably be bringing something with him to the cage on Friday April 21st at the Neal S. Blaisdale Arena. Jake will be bringing something with him too? and he brought enough for the winner of the Trigg Condit match up- whomever that might end up being. Head Jiu-Jitsu instructor Jake Shields has arrived in Hawaii with one mission and one mission only- to fight?and then fight some more.

Fairtex-sponsored Cage Rage Champ On TUF 3

20 Apr

by FTX (2006-04-20)

Fairtex-sponsored British fighter Michael “The Count” Bisping is one of the light-heavyweight athletes competing for the six-figure contract on the third installment of The Ultimate Fighter.

New episodes air on Spike TV every Thursday at 10 PM ET/PT.

Here’s a little background info on the current Cage Rage Light Heavyweight Champ:

Michael Bisping
Light Heavyweight
6’1, 205 lbs.
Age: 26
From: Liverpool, England

Team: Ortiz

If World War II had not occurred, Michael would probably be living as a Count in Poland, as his family ancestry traces back to royalty in his native land. Instead, the 26 year old is living the self-described ?working class? life in England, but is aspiring to become an Ultimate Fighter. Born in Cyprus, Michael attended Blackburn College, majoring in Electrical Engineering, and has two children ages three and five. He began learning jiu-jitsu at eight years old and lists Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture as his favorite UFC fighters. When he?s not practicing mixed martial arts in Liverpool, he works as a DJ on the weekends. His nickname is ?The Count.?

Congratulations to the IFMA executive board present at the General Assembly which was composed of many Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
